Calmdo: A Daily To-Do List With Reminders That Actually Fire

By Manu Manduc · ActInfinity · 2026-09-24

The problem this app solves

Plenty of to-do apps let you write a task and set a reminder, but the reminder doesn't always go off on time. Phones aggressively manage battery use, and background notifications get delayed or dropped by the operating system unless the app schedules them the right way. The result: you set a reminder, trust the app, and the notification never comes.

Calmdo is built around solving that one problem, plus keeping the rest of the app simple enough that it doesn't become another thing you have to manage.

How it works, step by step

1. Install and open — no sign-up

There's no account to create. You install the app from Google Play and open it directly to your task list.

2. Add a task for today or later

Calmdo keeps the structure flat: a task for today, and a schedule for what comes next. There's no folder tree or project hierarchy to set up first — you add what you need to do and, if it matters, when it needs to happen.

3. Set a reminder

When you attach a time to a task, Calmdo schedules that reminder using Android's system alarm manager — the same mechanism the phone's own clock app uses for alarms. That's the detail that matters: instead of relying on a background service the operating system can pause to save battery, the reminder is registered as a system-level alarm, so it fires at the time you set.

4. Check your list

Open the app to see today's tasks and what's scheduled ahead. There's no feed to scroll and no unrelated content mixed in with your list.

What it doesn't do

Calmdo isn't a project management tool. It doesn't have sub-tasks, team sharing, or calendar sync with other services. If you need to coordinate a team project across shared calendars, this isn't built for that. It's built for one person's daily list and the reminders attached to it.

The app also doesn't show ads, and it doesn't ask for an account or a login at any point — install it and it's ready to use.

Where your data lives

Tasks, notes, and schedules are stored on your phone. There's no cloud sync step and no server the app depends on to work, which also means the app works without an internet connection.

Who this is for

If your current to-do list app has ever let a reminder slip past without notifying you, the reliability of the reminder is the main reason to try Calmdo. If you need shared team boards or calendar integrations, look elsewhere — that's not what this app is for.
